Questions, answered
Everything about getting your Zapper takings into Xero: how the posting and VAT work, what we can and can’t see, and what it costs.
The basics
What does Crosspost actually do?
Each trading day it reads your Zapper takings and posts them into Xero: the sale, Zapper’s fees, the VAT and the payout, so your books reconcile to the cent without manual capture. See exactly what it posts.
Which businesses is it for?
South African businesses that take payments through Zapper and keep their books in Xero : cafés, salons, retailers, restaurants and the like.
Do I need to be VAT-registered to use it?
No. Crosspost works whether you’re VAT-registered (output and input VAT at 15%) or not registered (no VAT lines). You choose during setup, and it can be changed later.
How it posts
How does the VAT work?
It posts output VAT on the day’s sales and input VAT on Zapper’s fees, taking the fee VAT directly from Zapper’s own figure rather than recalculating it. See the worked journal.
What is the “Zapper Balance” account?
A bank-type clearing account in Xero that holds your in-transit settlements: money Zapper has settled but that hasn’t reached your bank yet. Your takings and fees post into it and the payout clears out of it; once a day is fully settled it nets to R 0.00.
Does it post automatically?
Yes. After you approve the first historical sync once, Crosspost posts each day on its own, and you can review every entry it makes.
What if my organisation is on the cash basis for VAT?
At launch Crosspost posts on the invoice basis. If it detects a cash-basis organisation it posts without VAT and tells you, so nothing is recorded incorrectly.
Money & safety
Does Crosspost touch my bank account?
No. It records a bank transfer in Xero that you match to your real payout . It has no access to your bank account and never moves money.
Does it see my customers' card details?
No. Crosspost only receives Zapper’s settlement summaries : totals and fees, never card numbers.
What if a sync fails or my Zapper key expires?
Crosspost flags it on your dashboard and pauses rather than post anything incorrectly. You reconnect and it resumes from where it left off.
Can I see exactly what it posted?
Yes. Every entry and transfer Crosspost posts sits in your Xero with a clear Zapper reference, so you and your accountant can trace each one.
Pricing & cancellation
What does Crosspost cost?
One Solo plan: R199 a month, or R149 a month billed annually. Every account starts with a 14-day free trial, and you only add a payment method when you subscribe. See pricing.
Can I connect more than one Xero organisation?
Each subscription covers one Xero organisation. If you keep books for more than one organisation, get in touch and we’ll set you up. Support for multiple organisations is on the way.
How far back can it import my history?
You choose during setup. On the free trial it brings in your recent history so you can see it working; your full selection imports automatically once you subscribe.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There’s no lock-in on monthly: cancelling stops future billing. Your Xero stays exactly as it is; we never remove what’s been posted.
